Beyond duty : Chinese policewoman who breastfed victims of the earthquake

The story spread over the Internet in May 2008.

During the earthquake that took place on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan province of China, and lasted for around 2 minutes, a high percentage of the buildings in the region collapsed and at least 68,000 people were killed.

Many people then tried to help, but the most famous one is probably Jiang Xiaojuan, a 29 years old Chinese police officer.

As reported by a local newspaper, this young woman,who just had a baby, decided to breastfeed the children of three women who have been left homeless by the quake and were too traumatised to nurse, as well as five orphans from the town of Jiangyou.

Beeing considered as a real hero, Mrs Jiang, when interviewed, was quite humble and discrete.

- "All mothers love children. Nursing a few babies is no big deal., she said.

- "I am breastfeeding, so I can feed babies. I didn't think of it much...It is a mother's reaction and a basic duty as a police officer to help.", she added.
